Mackenzie Harvey is one of the most exciting young talents in Australian cricket and, in 2016, captained the Australian U16 team. In the same year, he was selected for both the U16 - where he was captain also - and the U17 Cricket Australia XI teams that competed in the U17 and U19 National Championships respectively. In 2017, he captained Vic Metro in the U17 National Championships.

In 2018, he blasted 136 against the Pakistan U19 team and followed up with an attacking 59 for a Cricket Australia XI against a full strength England ODI line up. He then became a replacement player for the Melbourne Renegades for the remainder of the Big Bash competition. He then found himself contracted to both Victoria as well as the Renegades at just 17 years of age.

Later that year, Mackenzie made his debut for the Melbourne Renegades in BBL08 against the Sydney Sixers. He continued to be a part of that team that ultimately went on to win the BBL08 title in the final against the Melbourne Stars.

He also made his List A debut for Victoria in the Australian Domestic One-Day Cup against Western Australia. In 2020, Mackenzie was given the honour of captaining Australia in the 2020 U19 World Cup in South Africa.
